The MOST In-effective Method for Finding a Job
I talked to a good friend over the weekend who told me she has given notice to her employer and will be looking for a new job. I was happy for her, because she hasn’t liked her job for a long time. Then she told me something that made me cringe – “I have put my resume on the “big job boards†and expect to have a new job within the month.â€
Uggggggh! Ouch! The “big job boards†are THE MOST INEFFECTIVE WAY TO FIND A JOB, and my friend is relying solely on them to pay next month’s mortgage. Only about 2% of the people who use Monster find a job that way, and the other boards aren’t much better. Yet, so many people put their future into the hands of these folks.
Before YOU put your fate in the hands of the “big boardsâ€, I suggest you re-read the article from “Ask the Headhunterâ€!
If you REALLY want to find a new job, the MOST effective method is NETWORKING. What are YOU doing to grow your network? What are YOU doing to take care of those who will help you find your perfect Career Position?

A few days ago I asked the first question: who do you know that works/worked for…? Surprisingly, not immediately but a few days later I actually got an answer. I might meet with someone that knows someone that worked for the agency I am interested in working for. Of course that doesn’t mean I will stop here… I will ask again and again, until the answers will put me on the right path.
Thank you Dr. Harry

This is a time when your network is even more important. I would ask a few trusted people in my network to do some groundwork for me to find an opportunity and then see if any of them were able to make an introduction to someone with that company. The only other alternative is a head hunter and for some positions that is the way to go.
